We'd be glad to help with your ONT concern. You should be able to just switch out the cable on your own if you already have one. Give it a try and let us know how it goes! There are some workarounds if you have a high end router (Ubiquiti, pfSense, etc) but they just proxy the authentication. So generally, yes, you need to keep their gateway in passthrough mode.
